| Ethical Issues for Government Lawyers | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Description: | Expert panelists will address the typical and non-traditional ethical challenges faced by government lawyers, particularly in contrast to those faced by private firm lawyers: Who is the client? The general counsel of the relevant agency, the President of the United States, the country as a whole? Does the standard obligation to be a loyal advocate of the client's interests remain the same for a government lawyer? If the standard obligation does not apply, what kind of obligation, if any, does the lawyer owe to the client? Can the lawyer substitute his personal opinion on the matter and reject the position the client seeks to promote? Can the lawyer be fired for refusal to take the position of the client? | ||
