Claudio Grossman, Esq., was appointed Dean of American University Washington College
of Law in July 1995 and, in 1986, the Raymond Geraldson Scholar for International
and Humanitarian Law. Grossman has written extensively in the area of international
law and is actively recruited for his expertise on human rights. He has litigated
several landmark cases decided by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and
has held many notable positions, including his current position as President of
the College of the Americas, an organization of universities of the Western Hemisphere,
as well as Vice Chairman of the Committee Against Torture of the United Nations.
In 1993, Grossman was elected to the seven-member Inter-American Commission on
Human Rights of the Organization of American States (IACHR), twice being elected
IACHR President before his departure in 2001.
