The Washington College of Law Chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society (JRCLS) represents those law students who are members of or interested in the
Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).
The Law Society is guided by the philosophy, personal example, and values of its namesake,
J. Reuben Clark. These values include: (1) public service;
(2) loyalty to the rule of law; and (3) appreciation for the religious dimension in society and in
a lawyer's life.

About J. Reuben Clark
J. Reuben Clark (1871-1961) was a member of the LDS Church and had a varied career in the law. He graduated from Columbia University Law School in 1906 where he was a memberof the editorial board of the Columbia Law Review. During his career, he served as a law professor at George Washington University, solicitor for the U.S. State Department, private
practitioner in Washington, DC, a Major in the JAG Corp, Undersecretary of State, and U.S. Ambassador to Mexico. Click here for a full biographical sketch.
