The Black Law Students Association (BLSA) at the American University Washington College of Law (WCL) was created for the purpose of offering a community of support and enrichment to law students of African descent at WCL.

As a student chapter of the National Black Law Students Association, we believe that our obligations are to:

1. Foster solidarity between black law students

2. Increase and maintain the numbers of black law students at WCL

3. Instill in the black attorney and law student a greater awareness of the needs of the black community

4. Sensitize legal educators to the particular needs of black law students

5. Inform our membership and the community at large of legal developments which affect their lives

6. Influence the legal community and governmental entities to bring about meaningful change to meet the needs of the black community, and

7. Foster and encourage professional competence and accountability among black law students and attorneys.
