AUWCL Hosts Annual Gathering of Human Rights Clinics

Human rights clinical faculty from around the country and Canada met at American University Washington College of Law for their annual gathering last month. The 45 clinicians, who also attended a dinner sponsored by Dean Claudio Grossman, addressed issues such as the use of simulations, effective use of instructional time, and measuring the impacts of clinics on clients, communities, and the academy. Professors Rick Wilson and David Baluarte, representing the American University Washington College of Law International Human Rights Law Clinic, hosted the meeting.

“We were delighted to be able to host this dynamic and ever-growing group of human rights clinical teachers,” Wilson said. “Hearing what everyone is doing in the world of human rights defense is exciting and animating. Our law school has one of the most forward-leaning – and longest established – human rights clinics in the country, but it’s great to hear that new clinics are constantly bringing new energy and commitment to the defense of human rights.”
