Dissertation
"Negotiation and Implementation of an "Asian Bubble" under the Global Climate Change Regime"
In order to lessen the effects of the Kyoto mechanism on the developing countries in South East Asia, these countries should combine their resources, and unify their development strategies. Regional unity would allow South East Asian countries not only to "enlarge" their market, but also to collectively achieve sustainable development and environmental improvement. The thesis will discuss the possibility of an "Asian bubble" and address the following topics:
- An introduction to the current climate change regime;
- A case study of the present EU bubble;
- An economic and policy argument for the likelihood of an Asian bubble, and the major differences between the potential Asian bubble and the current EU bubble;
- A proposed institutional structure, legal framework and guiding principles for the potential Asian bubble; and,
- Possible strategies for negotiating and implementing the Asian bubble.
