2008

2007

In November, 2007, the Program hosted a conference on "How Legal Rhetoric Shapes the Law." It was designed to do three things: to raise some substantive issues critical to the legal writing community, to showcase some important scholarship being done by legal writing professors and others on topics about legal writing, and to celebrate the new Legal Rhetoric Program at Washington College of Law. The keynote address, "When Language Meets the Mind: Three Questions," was given by Professor James Boyd White of the University of Michigan Law School. Panels of legal writing professors and WCL professors discussed Narrative, Metaphor, and Archetype and the ways in which these writing tropes help to shape the way we understand and practice law.
