In order to apply candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Hold a law degree either from a U.S. law school accredited by the American Bar Association or from a foreign law school with equivalent standards.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a field related to international affairs, government, political science, journalism or another field related to human rights.
  • Be enrolled in a law degree program at a U.S. law school accredited by the American Bar Association or at a foreign law school with equivalent standards and have completed the first year.
  • Exceptions: Persons with direct experience in the human rights field that do not hold a degree in a human rights related field or those currently pursuing a degree in a non-human rights related are eligible to apply. The committee will review academic and professional experience as well as the statement of interest in order to determine if the applicant is a good candidate for the Academy.


Enrollment Status

American Bar Association Credit
Current law students enrolled in universities in the United States can register in any of the Summer Program courses and receive academic credits recognized by the American Bar Association.
Students accepted into an L.L.M. Program at WCL or those planning to apply, may transfer these credits towards their degree. Contact the Law and Government Program or the International Studies Program for details.

Certificate of Attendance
Persons interested in the Summer Program who are not law students in the United States.
Special arrangements can be made for international students interested in taking these credits for academic credit in their home countries.
