Events

In addition to specialized courses and the Human Rights Month events, the Academy also hosts special activities for its participants. These events are open to participants enrolled in any of the Academy courses.

 


Orientation



A general orientation of the Program will be held for you to pick up reading materials, register to attend the different special events, and make changes in your course selection. This will be your first opportunity to meet the other participants.

Attendance is mandatory.

Dinner will be served.

Night Tour of the Monuments

Take a bus tour of Washington DC's most famous monuments as they light up at night. The tour will include the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Korean War Memorial, FDR Memorial, the Capitol, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, White House, House of Representatives and Senate, Federal Triangle, and Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima).

BBQ


Enjoy an American-style barbecue on the patio of WCL. Spend the time getting to know fellow partipants. Use the chance to network with people from all over the world.

Potomac River Cruise


Sail down the Potomac River enjoying spectacular views of Washington D.C.

Cruise includes dinner and dancing. Semi-formal attire is recommended.

This will take approximately one hour via metro, so plan accordingly. The boat DOES NOT WAIT FOR ANYBODY.

Boarding begins at 7:00. Boat departs at 7:30 sharp. (The boat does not wait for late arrivals.)

Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and vist to the Organization of American States (OAS)


Visit the organization in charge of promoting the observance and defense of human rights in the member countries of the Inter-American System.

Tour of the Commission will be in Spanish only. The tour of the main building will be in Spanish and English.

There will be two departure dates--one for Spanish speakers and one for English speakers.
