On April 1, 2014, American University Washington College of Law and the US Human Rights Network are co-hosting a Civil Society Consultation with the U.S. Government on Access to Justice. The Consultation will help the U.S. Government prepare for the upcoming review of the US by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and UN Human Rights Council.

This webinar, co-sponsored by the US Human Rights Network, will provide an introduction to the CERD and UPR review processes, and provide advice on engaging the U.S. government through presentations at the Consultation. There will also be ample time to ask questions of the presenters, who have experience engaging the U.S. in these types of civil society consultations in the past. Speakers will include:

  • Lauren E. Bartlett, Local Human Rights Lawyering Project Director, Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law
  • Hadar Harris, Executive Director, Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law
  • Joshua Cooper, Director & Lecturer at Hawai'i Institute for Human Rights, University of Hawai'i
  • JoAnn Kamuf Ward, Associate Director, Human Rights in the U.S. Project, Human Rights Institute, Columbia Law School
Eric Tars, Director of Human Rights and Children’s Rights Programs, National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty
