Special Rapporteur participates in the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights' first ever hearing on Solitary Confinement in the Americas

Last week, Special Rapporteur on Torture, Professor Juan Mendez appeared as an international independent expert on a thematic hearing on Human Rights and Solitary Confinement in the Americas. The first ever hearing before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights on Human Rights and Solitary Confinement also included representatives from the American Civil Liberties Union who spoke specifically about confinement within the United States.

The Center’s Anti-Torture Initiative project which supports the Special Rapporteur prepared the submission and assisted with the organization of the hearing. To learn more, read the Special Rapporteur’s submission and watch the hearing.
