On October 6th, 2005, the Center, in conjunction with STAND (Students Taking Action Now: Darfur) and in cooperation with organizations worldwide, held an International Solidarity Fast for Darfur. The Solidarity Fast reached out to individuals and communities around the globe in order to send a direct Members of STAND talking to law students as they approach the table.message that we, the international community, recognize our responsibility to protect the world's populations from humanitarian crises. Multiple events were organized around the Solidarity Fast, including rallies and vigils. News of the event was broadcast into Eastern Chad and Darfur via radio, to show the people of Darfur that they have not been forgotten.

How does it work?

• Fast from a meal or a luxury good (i.e. alcohol, caffeine, desserts, cigarettes) and then donate the money you save to a relief organization.

• Spend some time in reflection or prayer for the people of Darfur, or spend 15 minutes learning about the crisis and how you can help.

WHY FAST?

• To send a powerful message that we, the international community, recognize our responsibility to protect the world's populations from humanitarian crises.

• To bring this crisis to the forefront of the minds of all people and not allow the world to so conveniently ignore these crimes against humanity.

• To initiate political change from local governments to the United Nations that will result in the end of the horrible murders of many thousands of innocents.

• To demonstrate our international solidarity with the people of Darfur. Not only does our fasting contribute funds to stop the genocide but we also commit to sacrifice luxuries in recognition of those who have lost all – even their lives.
