HELP STOP THE KILLING IN DARFUR: RECEIVE LOBBYING TRAINING AND LEAD AN AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION

Amnesty International USA is calling on student leaders and activists throughout the nation to sign up to lead a delegation for the 2006 Darfur Crisis Congressional district lobby week (September 25th – 29th). If selected to be a delegation leader, AIUSA will give you everything you need to plan your visit and to deliver one simple message: the Bush administration must do more to stop the killing in Darfur. DARFUR PHOTO DISPLAY

A display of photographs documenting the need for urgent action in the Darfur region will be in WCL’s lobby throughout the week.  The photographs are part of an exhibition at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

BAKE SALE
Tuesday, September 26th, 9am-4pm, WCL Lobby

Come grab a snack before class and help support human rights advocacy in the Darfur region. All proceeds will go to the Sudan Development Organization, a national Sudanese organization actively involved in Human Rights advocacy projects and peace building.  STAND is still seeking volunteers to help staff the table and also to bring baked goods!!!  If you are available for either task, please contact Miranda at Miranda246@aol.com.

ACTION FOR HUMAN RIGHTS COFFEE HOUR: CHAT ABOUT DARFUR

Please join us for a special coffee hour in which invited faculty members and community activists will join in on an informal discussion on the situation in Darfur.  As always, bagels, donuts, organic coffee and tea will be provided.

DARFUR DIARIES SCREENING

In October 2004, a team of three independent filmmakers set out for Sudan with the goal of providing a platform for the people of Darfur to speak for themselves about their experiences, their fears, and their hopes for the future.  Join us for a sobering account of the modern day genocide in Darfur, told by the people who have lived through it. THE RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT: THE CASE OF SUDAN

One year ago, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on the Responsibility to Protect, asserting that the international community has a responsibility to act when governments fail to protect their citizens.  Join us for a day of discussion and debate as the Center hosts a conference focused on the resolution’s role in the ongoing crisis in the Darfur region.
