Beyond Roper: International Laws and Standards for the Treatment of Children in Conflict with the Law

The recent Supreme Court decision that found the execution of juveniles to be unconstitutional made many references to international laws, standards and norms. As we celebrate that decision, we look forward to making further reforms in the juvenile justice system. This conference will look at the treatment of children in conflict with the law; the international laws, standards and norms that define their appropriate treatment; and how those standards can inform advocacy, policy, and litigation at every stage of the process.
On May 18, 2005, the Center, in conjunction with the American Civil Liberties Union, Global Rights, the Open Society Institute, and Penal Reform International hosted a one-day conference entitled Beyond Roper: International Laws and Standards for the Treatment of Children in Conflict with the Law.
