6-7: 1998 NAPIL Career Fair and Conference. The annual National Association for Public Interest Law (NAPIL) Conference and Career Fair will take place on November 6-7, 1998, at the Stamp Student Union, University of Maryland, College Park. The Career Fair and Awards Dinner will take place on Friday, November 6, 1998. While at the Career Fair, stop by The Human Rights Brief table to pick up a packet with information about The Brief's policies on article submissions and other opportunities for participating in The Brief. Subscription information will also be available. NAPIL's National Public Interest Conference will take place on Saturday, November 7, 1998. 7: Second Annual Hispanic Law Conference and Career Fair. This event, sponsored by WCL, the Hispanic Bars of the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, and the Hispanic Law Students Association, will be held at WCL on Saturday, November 7, 1998, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in room 603. This conference will provide a forum for Hispanic and non-Hispanic attorneys and students to engage in thoughtful dialogue about important issues in the Hispanic community and the Hispanic legal profession in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. 7: 50th Anniversary of Human Rights Instruments Celebration. This event, cosponsored by WCL and the American Society of International Law, will take place at WCL and will begin at 3:00 p.m. in room 603 on Monday, December 7, 1998. It will consist of two panel discussions, followed by dinner and a keynote address at 7:00 p.m. The first panel, entitled "Implementing International Human Rights Norms: Comparisons and Perspectives," will offer a historical commentary on the various regional human rights instruments and an evaluation of their first 50 years in operation. The second panel, "The Next 50 Years: New Actors in Human Rights," will make predictions about the future implementation of these instruments and examine the role of new participants, such as NGOs, in the human rights arena.
