The Health Law & Justice Program (HLJP) is committed to advancing the health law field through its research and training programs. HLJP conducts multidisciplinary research that focuses on promoting public health and social justice. Faculty at the Washington College of Law bring wide-ranging legal expertise on domestic and global health topics, including legal tools for ensuring equitable access to health care and healthy living conditions, food and drug law, and disability law. HLJP reaches across disciplines to partner with researchers from other fields and to promote the adoption of evidence-based health laws and policies.

In addition to its research, HLJP equips students and health law professionals with the knowledge and skills to succeed in the dynamic world of health law. HLJP helps shape the law school's health law curriculum, which includes a health law specialization for Law & Government LL.M. students and a depth of health law courses that few law schools are able to match. Our location in Washington, DC allows us to bring expert health law practitioners and policymakers into the classroom as adjunct faculty and guest lecturers. Students can take our health law courses during the fall and spring semesters and during the summer Health Law & Policy Institute, which is also open to legal professionals and to students outside of the law school. HLJP works closely with the Student Health Law & Justice Society and other groups to organize conferences and events that complement the health law curriculum. HLJP also provides oversight for the student-run Health Law & Policy Brief, a bi-annual publication that reports on cutting-edge issues in health law.
