The Office of Grant Administration and Program Development was created in 1995 to support the efforts of the WCL community to increase and manage external awards and contracts in support of research, training, instruction, and international programs. The office contributes to and supports many of the innovative initiatives developed by and for the WCL community.
GRANT ADMINISTRATION
One of the office's primary objectives is to manage the law school’s grantseeking endeavors which touch on various areas of law. Grant awards contribute to the law school’s efforts by providing financial support for research, instruction, student and participant support, operating functions, and technical assistance.
The office advises faculty and staff interested in seeking external funding and assists in the development of projects that enhance the awareness of the legal community, promote faculty scholarship, and encourage the renewal and improvement of excellence in teaching and student-centered education. WCL grant awards average between $2,000,000 and $3,000,000 each fiscal year.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
The office also coordinates and facilitates the international exchange of scholars and students, manages the law school's participation involving government contract projects, and receives international delegations and visitors in conjunction with the Office of the Dean.
WCL's prominence in legal education annually attracts professionals, scholars and students interested in meeting with faculty, conducting research and taking courses. In addition, the office oversees the following international activities: the J-1 visa process and the international exchange of scholars and students; international programs, projects, and conferences, including the International Arbitration Program; international delegations visiting the law school; the Washington Seminar Programs; and Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs) and affiliations with international partners.
