Gender and Law Mentorship Program

Program Goals

For Our Students

Students make crucial decisions about their careers and lives at a time when they may not have much information about the legal profession.  Students might not know what lawyers do in practice, how to figure out what kind of job or pro bono work best suits their personality,  passions, skills and values, or even how to get the most out of law school.  The Gender and Law mentorship program pairs students with practicing lawyers who can help them explore these questions.  We hope that students will leave the program with a sense of their power and responsibilities as advocates for social justice, ideas about integrating their interest in women’s and LGBT rights with a career in law, a sense of the many ways people construct their lives as lawyers to be fulfilling and a plan for using law school to reach their goals.

For Our Mentors

By sharing their own experiences in law school and legal practice, WCL alumni mentors will gain perspective on their own work and position as social justice advocates.  We hope that serving as a mentor in a focused and time-limited program will allow our alumni the benefits of guiding the next generation of WCL gender advocates in a format that respects their busy schedules.

For Our Community

The WCL community benefits when alumni and students feel connected to each other and the school.  We hope that our mentors and protégés will form the core of a community of advocates with a shared sense of ethics, mission and professional identity.
