The Gender Perspectives Seminar is a joint initiative of ILSP students specializing in Gender and the Law and the Women and International Law Program. The Gender Perspectives Seminar is truly international, comprised of women legal professionals from all over the world currently in residence at WCL. It was created to help members share experiences and skills, explore international law from a gender perspective, and create an environment at WCL conducive to developing solutions to some of the legal issues women face internationally. Members of the Seminar include students currently enrolled in:
- WCL's International Legal Studies Masters of Laws Program
- Fellows in the Herbert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program sponsored by the Institute of International Education, U.S. Department of State
- Junior Faculty Development Program Fellow sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State
While members of the faculty provide guidance, the Gender Perspectives Seminar is truly an experiential learning project led by students. The seminar meets regularly throughout the school year to provide students a forum to discuss scholarship, projects and ideas related to their studies of gender and the law. It includes site visits to non-governmental and advocacy organizations that promote women's legal rights, providing the students with the opportunity to exchange expertise with local practitioners. The Gender Perspectives Seminar is a promising initiative and will continue to evolve as women from around the world enrolled in the WCL International Legal Studies Program participate in its development.
