Debra Steger is visiting from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law where she teaches international trade and international dispute settlement. She is also the Founder and Director of the EDGE Network (www.edgenetwork.ca) on the emerging economies, a global, multidisciplinary research network. Previously, she was the first Director of the WTO Appellate Body Secretariat from 1995-2001, and Senior Negotiator for Canada in the Uruguay Round trade negotiations on the WTO Dispute Settlement Understanding and the Agreement Establishing the WTO from 1988-1993. In 1995, she held the Hyman Soloway Chair in International Business and Trade Law at the University of Ottawa, and she has been Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto and University of Victoria faculties of law. From 1991-1994, she was General Counsel of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal. She has also practiced international trade, antitrust and corporate law with major Canadian law firms.
