Jean Kalicki is a Partner at Arnold & Porter LLP, specializing in international arbitration as both arbitrator and counsel. As arbitrator she has served as Chair, sole and co-arbitrator in dozens of investment and commercial disputes, and is listed on the panel of arbitrators of many leading international arbitral institutions, in the United States, Europe and Asia. As counsel, she specializes in investment treaty disputes and has represented both States and investors, in roughly equal numbers, at ICSID and under UNCITRAL, in cases arising under BITs, FTAs including NAFTA and the Energy Charter Treaty. She has represented parties on five continents as well as the United Nations.
Selected as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” for international arbitration and one of Global Arbitration Review’s top 30 women in arbitration worldwide, Ms. Kalicki “is considered outstanding by market sources, and has particular expertise in ICSID arbitrations (Chambers USA, 2012). She has been described as “a thorough, meticulous and highly motivated arbitrator” (Chambers USA, 2011), as "simply superb" (The Legal 500, 2008), and as "an incredible investigator and researcher who is gifted at identifying key issues" and "knows how to use legal analysis to structure the best argument possible" (Chambers USA, 2008).
Ms. Kalicki is an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University Law Center and American University Washington College of Law. She serves on the AAA Board of Directors, the ICC Commission on Arbitration, the Executive Committee of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, and as a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and the College of Commercial Arbitrators (CCA). She is the long-time Co-Chair of the D.C. Bar’s International Dispute Resolution Committee and Chair of the U.S. Council for International Business’ Arbitration Subcommittee for Washington, D.C.
