One of the greatest philosophers of the East, Al Ghazali, wrote in A.D. 1111: 'Everything that exceeds its limit changes into its opposite.' This is the core idea that I would like to convey to my students. As lawyers and legal educators, we are obliged to first recognize and then pursue justice. However, that pursuit must be tempered by reason and an ability to see the limitations of any position. We must realize that blind pursuit of any cause, ideology, or goal can turn a just cause into an unjust one.
