Welcome Reception

The Environmental Law Summer Session co-hosted a Welcome Reception for participants with the Center on International Commericial Arbitration. At left, Professor David Hunter welcomes participants to the Summer Session alongside Director of the Center on International Commericial Arbitration, Horacio Naon (right).

SITE VISITS

Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman of the International Finance Corporation

Participants in the Environmental Law Summer Session went on a site visit to learn about the International Finance Corporation's (IFC's) Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman (CAO), which is the independent accountability mechanism for the IFC and MIGA. At left, members of Professor David Hunter's International Institutions and Environmental Protection course with members of the CAO, including CAO Vice President, Meg Taylor.

Below: CAO Vice President Meg Taylor discusses issues brought up in complaints filed with the CAO.

 

 

 

 

The CAO has participants engage in a simulation exercise to help them understand how the CAO works.

Participants visited UNEP's Regional Office for North America (RONA) and interacted with its staff. Discussion centered around the history of UNEP, the role of UNEP in the international community, and a variety of multilateral environmental agreements.

The World Bank Inspection Panel
