Faculty - Charles Di Leva
Charles Di Leva is Chief Counsel in the Environmental and International Law Unit (LEGEN) of the Legal Vice Presidency of the World Bank. His responsibilities include advising bank staff on environmental issues, international environmental treaties, and national environmental legislation. Additionally, he is part of the team that is working on the multi-year process to update the environmental and social safeguard policies that began in 2012. He has also represented the Bank in international treaty negotiations in the areas of Climate, Biodiversity, Chemicals, and Wetlands. From 1999 to 2001, Charles was the Director of the Environmetnal Law Center of the IUCN in Bonn, Germany. He also served as a senior programme officer in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Environmental Law Unit in Nairobi, Kenya. Prior to that Charles worked as a Trial Attorney in the Environmental Enforcement Section of the Department of Justice, Environment and Natural Resources Division, and in private environmental law practice. In addition to being an adjunct professor at American University Washington College of Law, Charles is also an adjunct at George Washington University School of Law.
