David Hunter is
the Executive Director for the Center
for International Environmental Law (CIEL), and an
Adjunct Professor at American University's Washington College of Law,
where he teaches International Environmental Law and Comparative
Environmental Law. His research and advocacy work covers a broad range
of global environment and development issues, including multinational
corporate responsibilities, ozone depletion, and the role of
international financial institutions. During 1991, Mr. Hunter was an
environmental consultant to the Czech and Slovak environmental
ministries as well as several NGOs in Central Europe. Formerly, he
worked for three years as an environmental associate at the Washington,
D.C. law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher &
Flom and one year as executive director of
Water Watch of Oregon, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving western water
laws. He is a 1983 graduate of the University of Michigan with majors in
economics and political science, and a 1986 graduate of the Harvard Law
