Metro and the American University Shuttle Service

From Union Station, National Airport, or downtown Washington, Washington's Metro subway trains run Monday through Friday, 5:30 am to midnight; Saturday and Sunday, 8 am to midnight. The closest Metro stop to The American University is Tenleytown/AU (also called Tenley Circle) on the Red Line. Public Metro buses run on regular schedules from Tenley Circle to the main campus, less than a mile away. Metro can give you information on specific routes and timetables for its buses and subways. From the Tenleytown/AU Metro stop you can pick up the American University Shuttle (see the shuttle stop location). On weekdays, the shuttle service runs every half hour between 8 am to 12:30 am, from the Metro at :00 and :30, and from WCL at :15 and :45. During the Fall and Spring semesters, supplementary weekday service is available between 8 am and Noon and between 4 pm and 8 pm increasing the shuttle frequency to every 15 minutes. On weekends and holidays, the shuttle service runs every half hour between 8 am and 1 am (1:30 am on Saturdays), from the Metro at :00 and :30, from WCL at :10 and :40, and from AU's main campus at :15 and :45.
