Center on International Commercial Arbitration

We are proud to announce the establishment of the Center on International Commercial Arbitration at American University Washington College of Law. The Center reflects WCL's global vision and commitment to international legal education and has made great strides in educating the academic and legal communities in this important field since 2004 through its accomplishments as the International Arbitration Program.
We are equally pleased to share with you information regarding the Center's newly established Advisory Board consisting of many of the most highly respected practitioners in international commercial arbitration. The Advisory Board will meet annually and provide insight and recommendations to as well as assist with the development of new strategic partnerships for the Center.
We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to a reception celebrating the establishment of the Center on International Commercial Arbitration on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at 5:30 P.M. in the Sixth Floor Dining Room at the Washington College of Law. This reception will take place as part of the Sixth Annual Seminar on International Commercial Arbitration: How to Handle a BIT Arbitration, which will take place October 13-16, 2009, at WCL. Getting Started in International Arbitration
Panelists will address students on various career opportunities in International Commercial Arbitration as well as tips and sources for getting started in the industry. The panel will take place on September 22, 2009 at noon in the International Student Lounge and is part of our celebration of International Week (Sept. 21-25, 2009).

Sixth Annual Seminar on International Commercial Arbitration
How to Handle a BIT Arbitration
The Sixth Annual Seminar on International Commercial Arbitration: How to Handle a BIT Arbitration is a four-day intensive program that uses a mock case as a tool for providing practitioners with skills, strategies, and tactics for successfully conducting arbitration cases. On this occasion, the seminar will feature sessions that are primarily from the perspective of the Rules of Arbitration of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
The Seminar is co-sponsored by the American Arbitration Association (AAA); International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID); and International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Cooperating institutions include the Inter-American Bar Association and the Inter-American Commercial Arbitration Commission; Media Partner are TDM and Global Arbitration Review.

Fourth Annual Lecture on International Commercial Arbitration 
Established in 2006, the annual lecture offers an eminent figure in international arbitration a platform on which to share his or her ideas on novel issues and current trends in international arbitration from his or her own perspective. This year's lecture will take place on Thursday, November 5, 2009, and
will feature Jan Paulsson, co-head of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP's international arbitration
