ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition

2008-2009 Team

In February 2009, a team of students represented WCL at the 4th Annual International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Commercial Mediation Competition in Paris. This year there were 40 teams of students from 18 countries, a significant increase from the 10 teams who competed in the first competition. WCL competed against teams from Ukraine, London, and India. Competitors acted as counsel and parties before professional mediators and used the ICC's ADR rules to solve business problems. Although the team received high praise from their judges and mediators, they were not among the eight teams to advance to the quarterfinal rounds.

This year's team consisted of:

Salua Baida (JD 2010)

Jeanne Cook (JD 2009)

Sabrina Jawed (JD 2009)

Meti Zegeye (JD 2010)

The team was coached by:

Whitney Robinson, 2007 WCL Alum. Ms. Robinson and co-counsel Sebastian Astrada won the competition in 2007.

The team is sponsored by the ADR Society, the International Arbitration Program, and the Student Bar Association. For information on joining the team, please email the ADR Society at adr@wcl.american.edu. For more information on the competition, please click here.
