ZUBERI WILLIAMS '03

Zuberi Bakari Williams is a Staff Attorney with Venable LLP, one of The American Lawyer's top 100 law firms. He is a member of the Environmental Group where he provides counsel in a wide range of areas related to environmental law, including government enforcement actions. More specifically, Mr. Williams' work focuses on representing clients accused of environmental crimes in federal and state trial and appellate courts in all parts of the country and counseling those clients who wish to protect against the risk of such accusations.

Before joining Venable LLP and after graduation, Mr. Williams served as Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Robert M. Bell, Chief Judge of the Maryland Court of Appeals. During his clerkship with the Court of Appeals, Mr. Williams had the opportunity to participate in the discussion and analysis of, and helped to draft, opinions on a multitude of legal issues ranging from death penalty appeals and criminal "knock and announce" policies, to zoning disputes and Maryland Freedom of Information Act requests. Mr. Williams also served as Summer Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Allen Goldberg, Circuit Court of Cook County in Chicago, and was also a judicial intern to the Honorable Susan R. Winfield, Superior Court of the District of Columbia in 2001.

While at WCL, Mr. Williams was a staff member of the American University Administrative Law Review and a student attorney with the Glushko-Samuelson Intellectual Property Law Clinic. He also was a member of the Black Law Student Association (BLSA), Business Law Society, and 2003 Class Gift Committee. Additionally, during his final year, Mr. Williams was a recipient of the Edward J. Walker Clinical Scholarship Award and appointed to the WCL Admissions Committee. Most notably, he was chosen by his colleagues to deliver the 2003 WCL Commencement Address. As an Alumnus, Mr. Williams has participated as a panelist in several WCL programs, including the 1-L career day hosted by the Office of Career & Professional Development.

Mr. Williams is a 2003 graduate of WCL and is currently completing his MBA at the American University-Kogod School of Business. He earned his BBA in Marketing from Texas Christian University (TCU), Fort Worth, Texas in 2000. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, the Montgomery County Bar Association, and the American Intellectual Property Association. In the Fall of 2005, Mr. Williams will leave Venable LLP, in order to serve as Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Gerald Bruce Lee, at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
