RONALD L. EARLY '68

Ronald Early '68, is a Principal at the law firm of Lerch, Early & Brewer, Chtd., in Bethesda, MD. A member of the firm since 1973, he has concentrated his practice primarily on litigation and general business transactions in the District Court of Maryland, the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, the Superior Court for the District of Columbia and area federal courts. A partial listing of the types of cases he has argued include: civil conspiracy; contracts; construction and mechanics liens; employment, negligence and wrongful death; intentional wrongs such as fraud and misrepresentation; defamation; breach of fiduciary duty; foreclosure; product liability; unfair competition and misappropriation of trade secrets; and the Uniform Commercial Code and bank law.

Early has argued and briefed numerous cases in Maryland's appellate courts, including several cases involving federal constitutional issues (rent control and unconstitutional taking of real property) and one involving a state constitutional issue (the referendum on the stadiums to be built in Baltimore).

As a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, Early was in the Judge Advocate General's Corps from 1969-1972. During his tenure, he sat as a military judge in special courts-martial in approximately 25-50 cases over a period of a year and one-half. He tried to verdict between 100-150 cases as either government prosecutor or defense counsel. These cases involved everything from breach of military authority and simple misdemeanors, to more serious felonies, including major theft and assault cases.

Early is a member of the D.C., Maryland and Florida bars. He is a past chairman of the Committee of Management, Bethesda-Chevy Chase YMCA, and past chairman of the Board of the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Foundation. Early is also a member of the Defense Research Institute and a past president of the Montgomery County Inns of Court. An active member of the Washington College of Law alumni community, he has served the law school in many ways, including past chairmanship of the Development Council, and presently as a member of the Dean's Advisory Council. He resides in Potomac, MD, with his wife, Maureen.
