ELLEN G. GLEBERMAN '79
Ellen J. Gleberman is Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) and is a member of the company's Board of Directors and Executive Committee. As Chief Legal Officer of the consolidated North American legal department, she oversees the legal activities of all Mitsubishi Motors operations in North America, including its Sales Division and finance subsidiary in California, its Manufacturing Division in Illinois, its Canada and Puerto Rico sales subsidiaries and its R&D company based in Michigan. She also is corporate secretary for the company and its affiliates.
In addition to her legal duties, Gleberman is MMNA's chief compliance and ethics officer and chair of its Diversity Leadership Council. In this capacity, she has been instrumental in promoting various corporate responsibility and diversity initiatives throughout the Mitsubishi Motors family, as well as being one of its chief spokespersons on federal and state legislative and regulatory matters.
In 2000, Automotive News, the premier publication of the auto industry in the United States, selected Gleberman as one of the "100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry".
Gleberman joined MMSA in 1989 as Senior Counsel after gaining extensive legal experience in several major law firms representing, among others, a number of automobile distributors. She began her career at a law firm in Washington, D.C., where she provided legal advice to several major international automobile companies on federal regulatory and trade matters. After moving to Los Angeles in 1983, Gleberman became a business litigator with a national law firm.
A member of the American Corporate Counsel Association, Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, California Women Lawyers Association and the Los Angeles and Orange County Bar Associations, Gleberman graduated in 1975 from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, with a bachelor's degree in government and received her J.D. (Juris Doctor) from American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., in 1979. She is admitted to practice law in California and Washington, D.C.
Gleberman currently resides in Manhattan Beach, California, with her husband and two children.
