VINCENT A. ENG '95

"The relationships I developed at WCL greatly contributed and continue to help me succeed in the legal profession," said Eng. "That's why I feel it's important to maintain my relationship with WCL to provide the same opportunities that my colleagues, professors, and alumni provided me."

Biography

Vincent A. Eng is the Legal Director of the National Asian Pacific American Legal Consortium (NAPALC), a national non-profit and non-partisan organization that works to advance the human and civil rights of Asian Americans through advocacy, public policy, public education, and litigation. Mr. Eng also serves as Chair of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Committee on Language Rights. Upon graduating from the Washington College of Law, Mr. Eng was an attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice Honors Program.

At NAPALC, Mr. Eng oversees its expansive public policy programs and its litigation efforts. He has filed numerous amicus briefs in the Supreme Court of the United States, including in the University of Michigan affirmative action cases, testified before Congress on civil rights matters, and has participated on various national panels and debates. Mr. Eng has appeared on CSPAN, several National Public Radio shows, and has been quoted or consulted by San Francisco Chronicle, Associated Press, San Jose Mercury, FOX News, Legal Times, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, as well as numerous local-based papers.

Currently, Mr. Eng is an adjunct associate professor of law at the American University, Washington College of Law, where he has lectured on Criminal Sentencing and Legal Research and Writing. He has also taught at the Harvard Law School and the University of Maryland School of Law.

Mr. Eng is also well published. He has written and edited over ten books on various legal and political matters and has served as the editor and chief of the "Almanac of the Executive Branch". Mr. Eng collaborated with Professor Nicholas N. Kittrie on his most recent publication Sentencing, Sanctions, and Corrections, a law school casebook, published by Foundation Press, a division of West Publishing.

Mr. Eng is a graduate of Brandeis University, where he received his B.A. in Politics. From the American University, he received his J.D., M.S. in Justice, Law and Society, and had worked toward his M.B.A. Mr. Eng is admitted to practice before the Court of Appeals of Maryland and the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

CLAUDIA A. LEWIS-ENG '95

Biography

Claudia A. Lewis Eng is a partner at Emord & Associates. She specializes in Constitutional law, Administrative Law, Food and Drug Law, FTC Deceptive Advertising Law, and General Civil Litigation.

Ms. Lewis-Eng represents a diverse range of dietary supplement manufacturers and distributors; food manufacturers and distributors; pet food manufacturers and distributors; OTC drug manufacturers and distributors; cosmetic and medical device manufacturers and distributors; scientists; physicians; nutritionists; healthcare associations; and citizens groups. She has successfully represented her clients before the Food and Drug Administration, the Federal Trade Commission, state medical boards and the federal and appellate courts. Ms. Lewis-Eng was co-counsel in the landmark First Amendment case and subsequent implementation of, Pearson v. Shalala, where her firm successfully argued that in keeping with the First Amendment, FDA must allow claims for dietary supplements backed by credible scientific evidence.

Ms. Lewis-Eng has published numerous articles and law publications on government regulatory issues. Ms. Lewis-Eng is an acknowledged expert in labeling and advertising law. She has been quoted in numerous notable publications including, FDA Week, The Tan Sheets, Lets Live Magazine, The Natural Food Merchandiser, Natural Products Insider, Vegetarian Times, Nutraceutical World, Associated Press, and USA Today.

Ms. Lewis-Eng is a graduate of Howard University, where she received her B.A. in Political Science. From American University, she received her J.D. and was an editor on the American University Administrative Law Journal and was the Student Bar Association Vice President. Ms. Lewis-Eng is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States of America, U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second Circuit, U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, and all courts in Connecticut.
