Planned Giving

American University Washington College of Law offers many options for planned giving.

  • Charitable Bequests
The most popular, and perhaps the easiest, way to make a planned gift is through a bequest in your will.

  • Charitable Lead Trusts
When you create this type trust, you can transfer cash or property to an irrevocable trust.

  • Charitable Remainder Trusts
When you establish a charitable remainder trust, you transfer cash or appreciated property to a trust that can be administered by American University or another trustee of your choice.

  • Charitable Gift Annuity
Recognized as the simplest life-income vehicle that a donor can choose, a charitable gift annuity pays you a guaranteed income for life.

  • Life Insurance Policies
The tax advantages can be substantial when you make a gift of life insurance.

  • Retirement Plans
Retirement plans offer one of the simplest and most flexible ways to participate in our planned giving program.

Individuals who include the law school in their estate plans and make their intentions known to the university are automatically entitled to membership in the Mooers Society at WCL and the Helen Palmer Kettler Society through American University.
