2009 Waiting List Information
We appreciate your continued interest in our law school. Please keep in mind that we will contact you if we have a space available for you in our entering class, so there is no need to contact our office more than we suggest. While you are welcome to visit the law school, please note that we do not offer evaluative interviews.
Waiting List Requirements
General Information
- Complete and submit on-line the Waiting List Reply Form with accurate contact information within two weeks of receipt of your waiting list notification letter. (Please note, it can take up to a week from the date of receipt of a submitted form for your counselor to record it into our system.) Please print a copy of the Waiting List Reply Form for your records.
- If your contact information changes, please email your admissions counselor with the updated information.
- If you are a spring 2009 graduate please send a copy of your spring transcript to the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) so they can provide us with an updated LSDAS report.
- If you wish to indicate your continued interest, you can email your admissions counselor a brief statement. Please refrain from contacting your counselor more than once a month and from sending other update items other than those indicated. While you are welcome to visit the law school, please note that we do not offer evaluative interviews.
- If you will be unavailable by telephone and email at any point between now and August 18th, please designate a person who can make a deposit on your behalf. Email your designee's name and contact information to your admissions counselor.
- Deferment of admission is not available to candidates admitted from the waiting list.
Part-Time & Full-Time
- Your chances of being accepted are increased if you choose to be placed on the waiting list for either full-time or part-time. Should you enter as a part-time student, you may switch to the full-time division after completing one year. The part-time program is in the evening (Monday through Thursday with the earliest class beginning at 6pm). Should you attend part-time for one year and switch to full-time, you can complete your degree in three years by attending two summer sessions.
Notification
- Selected waiting list candidates are contacted beginning in the spring through the summer via email.
- If a candidate is unsuccessful in gaining admissions from the waiting list, final notification will be sent after classes have begun in September.
- The status of the waiting list will be updated on this web page.
Accepting Our Offer
- If offered admissions, waiting list candidates are required to submit a $900.00 non-refundable seat deposit on-line via the <my.american.edu> web portal. Both credit card and E-check payments are accepted. The $900.00 deposit is credited towards fall tuition.
- Due to the nature of the waiting list process, candidates are required to decide if they will be enrolling immediately upon being contacted.
Financial Aid
- A financial aid award letter will be generated after receipt of the deposit. Please be sure that you have completed all financial aid forms so we can expedite the award process if you are admitted. The need-based grant application is due by March 1 regardless of whether or not you have received a final admission decision.
